Job Description

Based in the CBD, this niche insurer is looking for an experienced Casualty Underwriting Manager to run a small team. This is a 'hands on' position and will suit someone who enjoys being 'on the tools'. Will consider candidates at a Senior Underwriter level, looking to take the next step into a managerial position. Duties will include:

  • Managing and leading the underwriting team effectively.
  • Partnering with the business to improve the effectiveness and efficiencies of the key business drivers affecting the performance of the underwriting team.
  • Provide training and education to the business on underwriting policies, service standards,operational guidelines and client data requirements.
  • Training and coaching activities prepared and delivered to staff and business partners as required.
  • Achieve an average of 95% or above on Departmental Service standards.
  • Produce detailed reports at various levels.
  • Prepare the underwriting team budget and expenditure
  • Co-ordinate pre-renewal and post-renewal process with business partners in accordance with company procedure.
  • Provide information required for both external and internal audit; prepare management responses to audit findings in required timeframes and manage peer reviews in accordance with departmental requirements.\
  • Delivery of strategic transformational projects & BAU improved initiatives on time and
    within budget.
  • Collaborate with Portfolio Managers and Client team to ensure most efficient underwriting processes and procedures are in place to enable best client experience without compromising underwriting integrity
  • Managing and leading the underwriting team effectively.


Your Experience:

  • Relevant qualifications in insurance, business, financial services or similar.
  • Insurance qualifications equivalent to ANZIIF Senior Associate (Required) or Fellowship (Desirable).
  • Ability to manage people and other resources effectively.
  • Extensive knowledge of underwriting general insurance products, preferably commercial.
  • Successfully implemented changes to practice, procedure and business models, with
    experience in Lean methodologies highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting and delivering to budget.
  • Ability to persuade and influence both directly and indirectly.
  • Underwriter at a senior level or currently managing a team
